The World University Ranking list for 2019 was released on 26 September, placing the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore and the Indian Institute of Technology, Indore at number one and two in the list of best universities in India.

Here are the top colleges that featured in the World University Rankings 2019 list released by Times Higher Education:

Indian Institute of Science

IISC bagged the highest rank in Times Higher Education’s 2019 list of best universities. The University with 4,071 students, at a ratio of 9.4 students per staff, and an international student presence of just 1 percent, bagged the highest rank, landing between 251 and 300. IISC has a female to male ratio of 21:79.

Indian Institutes of Technology – Indore, Bombay, Roorkee

Unsurprisingly, the IITs came a close second after IISC. IIT Indore landed in the 351-400 ranking, with 1,118 students and a student to staff ratio of 8.6.

IIT Bombay and IIT Roorkee ended up in the 401-500 rankings of the Times Higher Education’s 2019 list of best universities. All three universities, however, only have a female to male student ratio of approximately 15:85.

IIT Roorkee falls even lower on the female-to-male student ratio at just 10:90.

JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research

Jagadguru Sri Shivarathreeshwara University or JSS University is the only higher education institution in India which is featured in the top 500 ranks of Times Higher Education’s World University Ranking list for 2019, apart from IISc and the IITs. Established in 2008 in Mysore, JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research offers a range of undergraduate programmes, postgraduate programmes and PhD programmes.

JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research also holds the honour of being the only Indian University on the list that boasts a higher female student population than male student population, with a ratio of 55:45.

Savitribai Phule Pune University

Savitribai Phule Pune University lands in the top 501-600 rankings on the list. Savitribai Phule University or Pune University with 6,186 students boasts a female to male students ratio of 46:54.

Amrita University

With 14,395 students and the highest international student population at 13 percent, Amrita University lands in the 601-800 rankings of the Times Higher Education’s World University Ranking list for 2019.

Banaras Hindu University

Banaras Hindu University or BHU, with over 12,200 students also lands in the 601-800 ranks of Times Higher Education’s World University Ranking list for 2019. The university has a 3 percent international student population and claims to have one staff for every 9.3 students.

The other colleges featured on the list include Jadavpur University, University of Delhi, NIT Rourkela, Aligarh Muslim University and many more.
