The Daily Telegraph reported that Darren Lehman will resign as coach before the Fourth Test against South Africa starting on Friday with a ball-shaped case being furious.
The Australian team has been embarrassed after Captain Steve Smith pleaded guilty on Saturday that the team’s senior players plotted to deform the opening batsman Cameron Bancroft’s ball in the third Test against South Africa in Cape Town.
ICC suspended Smith for a fourth Test match. Smith and David Warner have abandoned the position of the captain and vice-captain respectively, and cricket continues to investigate Australia.
Cricket Australia will announce the results of the investigation in Johannesburg on Tuesday evening. Following the incident, coach Lehman has not made any statement publicly. Lehman, who was planning to quit the coach after the 2019 Ashes series, decided to step down from his position earlier, according to the Daily Telegraph.
Former Australian leg-spinner Lehman was left out of South Africa’s Mickey Arthur in 2013. After the Lehman coach, Australia won the ICC ODI World Cup in 2015. The two Test series at home were won by 5-0 and 4-0.
