The Bellandur lake, spread across 910 acres, is on fire yet again.
The fire was first sighted at around 12 noon towards the MEG side of the lake in Chellaghatta near T-Nagar.
Though fire and emergency teams rushed to the spot when the fire was reported, they could not douse due to inaccessibility. The MEG teams pressed to action and doused the fire.
Officials from Bangalore Development Authority, Karnataka State Pollution Control Board and Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike are inspecting the site.
According to locals and officials the lake caught fire because of the increase in the level of decomposed organic matter. Anaerobic contents are also too high in the waterbody. Heaps of garbage in the lake has made matters worse.
Last year, the lake had made it to the headlines because of the fire and rampant encroachment. Cases pertaining to cleanliness and maintaining the waterbody are still being heard at the National Green Tribunal, Chennai.
